Black Sea Project: Northwest Black Sea Sediment Delivery Data Package
Late Miocene to Early Pliocene siliciclastic sedimentary systems deposited a ~300 km wide, ~2 km thick succession on the northwest Black Sea shelf and fed a complex of slope to basin floor turbidite fan systems farther to the southeast. Hydrocarbons hosted in sediments derived from these systems include the Domino, Pelican and Sakarya fields. Extensive fieldwork and subsequent analysis has revealed a highly dynamic system involving large-scale changes in sediment provenance and flux through time that will impact upon reservoir presence and performance in the subsurface. This package brings together all of CASP’s Black Sea Project research relating to sediment supply to the northwest Black Sea from the Miocene to the present day and forms an essential tool for those wishing to exploit resources within these sediments.
Reports included in the package:
- Miocene to recent sediment delivery to the north-western Black Sea
- Petrographic and heavy-mineral fingerprinting of present-day rivers and beaches of the NW Black Sea
- Petrographic and heavy mineral fingerprinting of Miocene, Pliocene and Pleistocene sediment delivery systems to the NW Black Sea
- Stratigraphy of the East Carpathian Foreland: Implications for sediment delivery to the NW Black Sea
- A GIS database of U-Pb zircon ages from basement rocks to the north-west of the Black Sea
- The composition and provenance characteristics of Palaeo-Danube sand
- The composition and provenance characteristics of Palaeo-Dniester sand
- Detrital zircon U-Pb ages for potential Late Miocene to Pliocene sediment supply systems to the northwest Black Sea Basin
