Mesozoic-Cenozoic evolution of East Greenland: implications of a reinterpreted continent-ocean boundary location
Recent aeromagnetic syntheses of the North Atlantic region illustrate that on a key segment of the East Greenland margin immediately north of the Jan Mayen Fracture Zone, previous continent-ocean boundary Iocations are seriously in error. An area of crust 500 km long and ISO km wide at its widest, previously considered to be continental is here reinterpreted as oceanic. Four important implications are recognised.
