Laevitrigonia cineris sp. nov., a bivalve from near the Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary in the Durlston Formation(Purbeck Limestone Group) of Dorset
The new species of trigoniid bivalve, Laevitrigonia (Laevitrigonia) cineris is described from the Cinder Beds Member at the base of the Durlston Formation of the Purbeck Limestone Group at Durlston Bay, Swan age, Dorset. Its age is probably close to jurassic-Cretaceous boundary. Although known from this level since the 19th century, this trigoniid has never been formally described or illustrated. The new species is compared with other laevitrigoniids from the Late jurassic and earliest Cretaceous deposits of northwestern Europe and the Russian Platform.
